”Please Ignore This Fake News, No One Has Picked Me Up”- Kofi Ofosu Nkansah On NIB Arrest

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has publicly denied reports suggesting that he has been picked up by the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) over allegations of the sale of government-sponsored foreign scholarships.

In a social media post responding to the claims, Nkansah described the reports as false, insisting that he had not been arrested or invited into custody.

“Please ignore this fake news. No one has picked me up. I’m currently eating fufu,” he wrote, directly disputing assertions made earlier by the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Digital Centres Limited, Dzifa Gunu.

This denial comes after Dzifa Gunu stated on Facebook that Nkansah had been picked up by the NIB after allegedly refusing earlier invitations to substantiate his claims regarding the sale of overseas scholarships.

“Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has been picked up by the NIB to substantiate his allegations of the sale of foreign scholarships. He is currently in the grips of the NIB after refusing their invitation,” Gunu had posted.

The controversy follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, who ordered the NIB to conduct a full-scale investigation into Nkansah’s allegations. The directive was conveyed by the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Fosu, after Nkansah made the claims during a widely circulated discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM.

During the radio programme, Nkansah alleged that individuals paid money to secure government-sponsored scholarships to study abroad, raising serious concerns about fairness, transparency, and integrity in the administration of public scholarship schemes.

A formal communication dated February 3, 2026, described the allegations as “serious and of grave public concern” and tasked the NIB with establishing the facts, identifying any persons involved, and verifying the claims. The Bureau is expected to submit its findings directly to the President for consideration and any necessary action.

Despite the ongoing investigations, Nkansah has urged Ghanaians to disregard reports of his arrest, maintaining that the claims circulating about his alleged detention are untrue.

The NIB has yet to officially comment on the conflicting public statements.
