Parliament Resumes Sitting on October 21—Speaker Bagbin Announces

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has announced that the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic will officially commence on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, marking the end of the legislative recess.

In a statement issued by the Office of the Speaker and signed by Mr Bagbin, the House is scheduled to reconvene at 2:00 p.m. at Parliament House in Accra.

The notice was issued in accordance with Order 58 of the Standing Orders of Parliament, which empowers the Speaker to fix the date for the commencement of parliamentary business.

This latest announcement follows an earlier notice issued on October 6, 2025, which deferred the original start date due to what the Speaker described as “circumstances beyond his control”.

When Parliament resumes, Members of Parliament are expected to consider a number of critical national issues, including the passage of pending bills, the consideration of motions, and the scrutiny of government policy statements.

The Third Meeting of Parliament traditionally sets the tone for major legislative work ahead of the presentation of the national budget, which is usually laid before the House in November.
