The Oti Regional Health Director, Dr. Osei Kuffour Afreh, has voiced serious concerns regarding the safety of health workers in Nkwanta South, as escalating violence continues to threaten the region.
Dr. Kuffour warned that if attacks on healthcare staff persist, health facilities in the area may face closure. The ongoing violence has led to numerous attacks on government institutions, including the Kyabobo National Game Park, the Police FPU, and municipal health directorate vehicles. Tragically, one health worker has lost their life, and others have been injured in these attacks.
Speaking to Adom News, Dr. Kuffour revealed that the violence has caused widespread fear among healthcare workers, many of whom have sought refuge but continue to face threats. He noted that sporadic attacks have also damaged health directorate vehicles, further jeopardising the safety of staff in affected areas like Tuobodom.
“The safety of our dedicated workers is non-negotiable. We cannot allow them to be placed in harm’s way,” Dr. Kuffour stated. He called on all parties involved in the conflict to prioritise peace and stability, emphasising the vital role healthcare services play in the community’s well-being.
While expressing gratitude for the swift response of state security agencies, Dr. Kuffour reiterated the health directorate’s commitment to continuing its services to the people of Nkwanta South, despite the ongoing challenges.
