Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu was on Wednesday, December 3, detained by officers at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), disrupting plans by investigators to interrogate him over corruption allegations he has levelled against the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.
Kpebu, who arrived at the OSP’s Cantonments office for a scheduled meeting, reportedly clashed with police officers stationed at the entrance. He was subsequently taken into custody before investigators could begin questioning him, Puretvonline sources confirmed.
According to insiders, the Special Prosecutor’s team was unable to proceed with the interrogation while Kpebu remained in police custody.

He was later granted bail with the condition that he must provide a landed property in his name as security. But in a dramatic twist, when his lawyer returned to the facility to complete the bail process, Kpebu could not be located, raising questions about the circumstances of his detention.
The incident marks the latest escalation in what has become a tense and highly public dispute between Kpebu and the OSP.
For months, Kpebu has openly criticised Mr Agyebeng’s handling of high-profile corruption investigations. He has accused the SP of procedural irregularities, a lack of transparency, and delegating sensitive enquiries to junior officers who allegedly report directly to him.
Before a previous meeting at the OSP last week, Kpebu told journalists he would only cooperate with an investigative panel that is independently constituted, arguing that the current arrangement undermines fairness.
He also referenced alleged procedural failings in the OSP’s past investigations, including the inquiry involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, which he claimed suffered from “basic procedural lapses”.
As of Wednesday evening, the OSP had not issued an official response regarding Kpebu’s detention, the circumstances leading to his arrest, or his unclear whereabouts after the bail conditions were set.
Sources within the security setup indicate that Kpebu is likely to be released by close of day, but no official confirmation has been provided.
The episode adds another layer to the growing scrutiny surrounding the OSP’s operations and the public rift between the Special Prosecutor and one of his most vocal critics.
