In a statement, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received a distress call at approximately 12:25 p.m. reporting a fire at Block Number E 6264, where petrol was being stored and sold in gallons.

A team of firefighters led by Station Officer I Daniels Moah was immediately dispatched and arrived on the scene within six minutes, at 12:31 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the building fully engulfed in flames.

The structure, though uncompleted, was being used as a storage facility for gallons of petrol and bags of beans. According to the GNFS, six bags of beans were saved from destruction, but the fire partially damaged the building and destroyed a significant amount of stored fuel and property.

The fire was brought under control within ten minutes and completely extinguished by 12:55 p.m. using water. Tragically, Ali Abubakari could not escape the blaze and was confirmed dead at the scene.

GNFS officials are continuing investigations to determine the exact cause of the fire. The service has once again cautioned the public against the illegal storage and sale of fuel in residential and unapproved structures, stressing the high risk of explosions and fatalities.

Authorities are also calling for stricter enforcement of regulations governing fuel retail to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
