The suspect in the alleged domestic violence case involving 32-year-old Harriet Amuzu of Ofankor in the Greater Accra region has been formally charged, with the next hearing scheduled for March 17, 2026.
This follows the completion of investigations into the case.
The minister for gender, children and social protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, disclosed this when she appeared before Parliament to respond to questions on the status of the case.

“The next hearing has been scheduled for 17th March 2026,” she noted.
She assured the House that the Ministry continues to provide psychosocial counselling and other protective services to support the victim and ensure her safety and well-being.
The case sparked public outrage after Harriet Amuzu alleged that she had been violently attacked by her estranged husband, John Odartey Lamptey, at Ofankor after she refused his demand for sex.
According to her account, the incident began when Lamptey called her on November 15, 2025, claiming that their youngest child was seriously ill. Concerned, she travelled to Accra only to discover that the children were healthy and that the claim had allegedly been fabricated to lure her back home.
She alleged that the situation soon turned violent, with Lamptey accusing her of infidelity and physically assaulting her.
Harriet further claimed that he forced her into sexual activity, prevented her from seeing her children, and threatened her life.
She said she cried out for help during the ordeal, but no one initially intervened. She later reported the incidents to the police at Tesano and Ofankor and provided evidence.
Following public outrage over the case, the minister for gender, children and social protection assured that the government would take steps to protect Harriet and her children and ensure that justice is served.
Meanwhile, a magistrate court sitting at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit earlier ordered the detention of Lamptey, also known as Nii Adjei, along with two of his siblings — Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey.
Lamptey has been charged with physical assault under the Domestic Violence Act, while his two siblings face charges of conspiracy to commit a crime after they allegedly threatened a tenant suspected of filming the attack.
The three were remanded in police custody and are expected to reappear in court as proceedings in the case continue.
