No Record of Assassination Attempt – Interior Ministry Contradicts OSP

The Ministry of the Interior says it has found no record or official report to support claims that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has survived two assassination attempts, as recently alleged by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

In a statement issued on Monday, December 8, the Ministry said its attention had been drawn to comments made by the OSP’s Director of Strategy, Research and Communications, Samuel Appiah Darko, during an appearance on Newsfile on December 6, 2025. Mr Darko had claimed that the special prosecutor had escaped two attempts on his life and further alleged that he himself had been handcuffed and beaten by 17 police officers.

The ministry noted that such allegations, if verified, could significantly undermine public confidence in the government’s anti-corruption efforts and therefore warranted urgent attention.

According to the Interior Ministry, preliminary checks have shown that Mr Agyebeng stated that the alleged assassination attempts occurred “before this year.”

However, the Ministry emphasized that “there is no record or report of such threats against his life at any police station or at any of the state security agencies in the country.”

The revelation raises questions about why such serious threats were not formally reported or documented by the Special Prosecutor or his office.

Despite the absence of official reports, the interior minister has directed a full-scale investigation into both the alleged assassination attempts and claims of brutality against Mr Samuel Appiah Darko.

The Ministry underscored that “crime does not expire”, stressing that any credible allegation of attempted murder must be thoroughly examined regardless of when it allegedly occurred.

The probe will also look into Mr Darko’s claim of being handcuffed and assaulted by police personnel—a matter the Ministry says cannot be overlooked.

The Interior Ministry assured the public that updates will be provided once investigations progress, adding that any actions deemed necessary will be taken swiftly.

It reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and ensuring that all citizens can perform their lawful duties without intimidation or fear.
