NIA, DVLA Launch Online Ghana Card Registration Platform to Cut Queues and Speed Up Service Delivery

In a bold step towards Ghana’s digital transformation, the National Identification Authority (NIA), in partnership with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), has rolled out a fully online Ghana Card registration system, eliminating the stress of long queues and delays that have frustrated applicants for years.

The new initiative, announced by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Wisdom Yayra Koku Deku, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), marks a major milestone in the country’s quest for seamless, technology-driven public services.

“In partnership with DVLA, you can now apply for your Ghana Card online, book an interview online, make payment online, and book an appointment online for biometric capture at the Adenta DVLA office. No need to join long queues,” the NIA CEO wrote.

The service, which officially launches at the Adenta DVLA office, will gradually be extended to all DVLA offices across the country, making Ghana Card registration faster, smarter, and more efficient than ever before.

Through this digital platform, first-time registrants and online applicants can complete their entire pre-enrolment process on the NIA’s website — register.nia.gov.gh. This includes filling out forms, making payments, booking interviews, and scheduling biometric capture appointments.

According to the NIA, the system is designed to simplify the registration process and ensure that applicants spend minimal time at physical offices—a welcome relief for many Ghanaians who have endured long waiting hours in the past.

The authority, however, assured citizens that walk-in services remain available at all district offices, including the Adenta office located at the Adenta Mall, for those unable to access the online system.

Officials say the move is part of the government’s digital governance agenda, aimed at improving service delivery, reducing bureaucratic bottlenecks, and increasing accessibility across all regions.

“This innovation is not just about technology—it’s about convenience, efficiency, and respect for citizens’ time,” the NIA CEO added.

The NIA also confirmed that robust cybersecurity and data protection protocols have been implemented to ensure the safety of all personal data processed through the platform.

The collaboration between the NIA and DVLA further strengthens Ghana’s national identification ecosystem, positioning the Ghana Card as a central tool for accessing essential services, from banking and telecommunications to travel and social protection.
