NDC Youth Groups Oppose Appointment of GRA Acting Commissioner-General
Some concerned NDC youth groups in Tamale have expressed strong disapproval of President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment of Anthony Sarpong as the acting commissioner-general of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
Mr. Sarpong, who was appointed by President Mahama, previously served as a senior partner at auditing firm KPMG.
However, the youth groups argue that his alleged ties to the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) make him an inappropriate choice to lead the country’s revenue mobilisation efforts.

In a press conference held in Tamale, Abu Jamal, the coordinator of the Concerned Youth of NDC, called on the president to revoke Mr. Sarpong’s appointment and instead consider a more credible candidate for the role.
“We do not agree with this appointment because we do not see Mr. Sarpong as someone who can effectively lead the revenue generation drive, given his affiliation with the NPP,” Jamal stated.
He pointed out that Mr. Sarpong had been appointed by former President Nana Akufo-Addo to serve on the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana (ICAG) in 2020 alongside other NPP figures.
The group further warned that if the president does not reverse the appointment within five working days, they will take to the streets in protest.
“We are certain that there are more knowledgeable individuals within the NDC who can manage this crucial sector better,” Jamal concluded. The groups remain steadfast in their demand for a reappointment to the GRA.
