Mustapha Gbande Vows Ken Ofori-Atta Will Face Justice, Dead or Alive

Deputy Director of Operations at the Presidency, Mustapha Gbande, has vowed that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will be brought to justice regardless of his circumstances, even in death, should he refuse to return to Ghana.

Gbande made these remarks following the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) declaration on February 12, 2025, officially naming Ofori-Atta as a suspect in four high-profile corruption investigations.

These cases involve allegations concerning the National Cathedral project, Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML), and two other ongoing probes.

At a press briefing on February 12, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng issued a warning to Ofori-Atta, urging him to return to Ghana immediately for questioning. Agyebeng emphasised that failure to comply would result in the full application of legal measures to ensure his return.

“If Ken Ofori-Atta refuses to return, every measure will be taken to bring him back to this country. If he passes away, his dead body will be prosecuted, and every stolen public fund will be retrieved. This is not just a government agenda but a national mandate,” Agyebeng declared.

In an interview with Joy News on Monday, February 17, Mustapha Gbande reiterated his stance on public accountability and integrity.

“I fear stealing from the public; I will never take what belongs to the people. If ever faced with a decision that harms the country, I would rather remain poor and be respected for my integrity,” he asserted.

Gbande further emphasised that he prioritises national respect over personal wealth and would never compromise his ethical values for financial gain. The ongoing legal battle surrounding Ken Ofori-Atta continues to be a focal point in Ghana’s fight against corruption.
