Minister for Energy and Green Transition John Abdulai Jinapor has confirmed that a comprehensive report on the missing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers has been submitted to the Attorney General’s office for further action.
Speaking during a working visit to ECG’s headquarters in Accra on Friday, October 17, Mr Jinapor said the Attorney General is reviewing the committee’s findings to prosecute individuals found culpable of causing financial loss to the state.
“We’ve forwarded the full document to the Attorney General; he’s studying it, and if people are found culpable, the law will take its course. We are not victimising anybody,” he stressed.

The minister expressed appreciation to the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GHAPOHA), National Security, and the Chief of Staff’s office for their role in tracing the containers. He also vowed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Mr Jinapor revealed that ECG’s management has reviewed 347 contracts and terminated 202 of them without incurring legal or financial liabilities.
“What it means is that you didn’t need those over 200 contracts. And yet, somebody decided to sign them,” he stated.
The issue dates back to March 2025, when the Energy Ministry disclosed that about 1,300 ECG containers could not be traced, with only 40 recovered at the time. A special committee was subsequently set up to investigate the matter.
Months of investigations have since traced over 2,600 containers, with about 1,500 cleared from the ports, leading to the current referral to the Attorney General for possible prosecution.
