MASLOC Recovers Three Government Vehicles from Chairman Wontumi’s Residence- CEO Confirms

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), Abigail Elorm Mensah, has confirmed that three government vehicles have been retrieved from the residence of Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Wednesday, September 10, Ms Mensah disclosed that the recovery operation was carried out with the support of National Security operatives as part of an ongoing campaign to reclaim government vehicles and loans from individuals in default.

“I have gone with National Security operatives to the house of the Chairman of the NPP in the Ashanti Region, Chairman Wontumi. Three cars. In fact, there were five cars. We’ve retrieved three. I have collected all from his house. We are still chasing him for the two. He has to pay for them,” the MASLOC CEO revealed.

Under MASLOC’s procedures, beneficiaries who fail to honour repayment agreements or misuse state vehicles are required to return the assets or settle outstanding obligations.

“What we do is that once I seize the cars, the agreement we have with you is that you would have to repay whatever has accrued, and we release the cars to you,” Ms Mensah explained.

She further confirmed that numerous cases of misappropriation of state assets had already been referred to the police. “We’ve reported a lot of the issues to the police,” she added.

Citing another case, Ms Mensah recounted an incident involving Seidu Imoro, a brother of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who allegedly refused to return a government vehicle after acquiring a new one.

“I have a situation where a brother of former Vice President Seidu Imoro picks a car, and he is bold enough to tell us that ‘well, he has used the car to work, and he’s bought his own, so if we want, we could come for it.’ So we’ve seized it,” she disclosed.

MASLOC’s intensified recovery drive comes amid renewed government efforts to safeguard public property and enforce accountability in the management of state resources.
