President John Dramani Mahama has named Malik Basintale, the Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
This appointment comes following the resignation of Kofi Baah Agyepong, who stepped down from the role citing personal commitments and aspirations.
Malik Basintale, a key figure in the NDC and a prominent voice during the December 7, 2024, presidential election campaign, is set to officially assume office on Monday, January 27, 2025. Known for his vibrant political commentary and youth-focused advocacy, Basintale is expected to bring energy and innovation to the YEA’s mandate of tackling youth unemployment.
Expressing his gratitude on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Basintale wrote:
“Thank you, Mr. President, H.E. John D. Mahama. We shall not fail you❤️🙏🏽🇬🇭.”
Kofi Baah Agyepong, who led the YEA for the past two years, described his tenure as “an honour and a privilege” in a letter to President Mahama. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to reducing youth unemployment and wished his successor well.
Agyepong’s resignation follows several high-profile exits from state agencies and institutions in the wake of the December 7 elections. Notable resignations include:
- Akwasi Agyemang, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority.
- Sammi Awuku, former CEO of the National Lottery Authority.
- Julie Essiam, Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
