Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has reaffirmed the government’s resolve to continue viable projects initiated by previous administrations, provided they deliver value for money and align with Ghana’s development priorities.
Speaking at the commissioning of a 160-bed dormitory and a 24-unit girls’ sanitary facility at Bimbilla Senior High School in the Northern Region on Sunday, November 2, 2025, the minister said governance must be about progress and continuity, not partisanship.
The project — started under the previous government in partnership with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) — was completed and inaugurated under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.

The commissioning drew excitement from students and staff, who hailed the new facilities as a timely solution to years of accommodation challenges.
Mr Iddrisu praised the previous government for initiating the project, stressing that sustained national development depends on leaders’ willingness to build upon one another’s progress.
“I will be the first to acknowledge the initiatives of the previous government and to assure you that President John Dramani Mahama, under his resetting agenda, will continue with worthy, viable initiatives of the previous government,” he said. “If it adds to Ghana’s developmental needs—especially in building manpower—President Mahama will continue it.”
The minister, however, issued a firm warning that projects lacking value for money would be reviewed, saying wasteful spending undermines national growth.
“We will not behave like them, when a number of GETFund projects were left to rot,” he stated. “These actions do not give taxpayers justification and value for money on that project.”
Mr Iddrisu added that the Mahama-led government remains committed to education infrastructure development, particularly in rural and deprived areas, to promote access, equity, and quality learning.
