President John Mahama has called on the newly appointed Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, and his First Deputy Governor to protect the independence of the central bank and restore public confidence in its operations.
Speaking at Jubilee House on Tuesday, February 25, shortly after swearing them into office, Mahama emphasised the crucial role of the Bank of Ghana in maintaining economic stability and rebuilding trust in the financial sector.
“Protect the independence of the Bank of Ghana,” the President charged the Governors, urging them to uphold responsible fiscal management and adhere strictly to the bank’s legal and regulatory framework.

He assured them of his commitment to shielding the central bank from political interference, reaffirming that its mandate should remain free from partisan influence.
“As president, I am committed to ensuring that the central bank operates free from political interference, guided solely by its mandate,” Mahama stated.
He concluded by stressing that maintaining the integrity and autonomy of the Bank of Ghana was essential in achieving a resilient and robust economy.
