Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has refuted claims that President John Dramani Mahama played a role in the discontinuation of high-profile criminal cases.
Dr. Ayine has faced criticism following the withdrawal of cases involving key figures linked to the previous Mahama administration, including the Saglemi Housing Project case, charges against Bank of Ghana Governor Johnson Asiama, the Democracy Hub case, and the prosecution of former COCOBOD CEO, Stephen Opuni.
Critics have alleged that political influence from President Mahama led to the dropping of these cases.

However, speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, February 12, Dr. Ayine dismissed the claims, asserting that all decisions were made independently by his office.
“As Attorney General, I take full responsibility for all the decisions so far taken. I am not under any instruction or pressure to discontinue any case or to bring charges against anyone,” he stated.
He further rejected accusations that Mahama had acted as a “clearing agent” in these legal matters, stressing the independence of the Attorney General’s Office.
“Those who are in a haste to tag the President of the Republic, John Mahama, as a clearing agent should hasten slowly because he is not responsible for prosecutions and has not directed me to drop any case,” he said.
Dr. Ayine reiterated that every prosecutorial decision was based on legal merit and due process rather than political considerations, urging critics to respect the rule of law.
