Mahama Cracks Down on Corruption: Appointees Must Declare Assets by March 31 or Face Dismissal

President John Dramani Mahama has given all government appointees until March 31, 2025, to declare their assets or face serious consequences, including removal from office.

The President made this declaration on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, after submitting his own asset declaration forms to the Auditor-General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, at Jubilee House.

Mahama stressed that the directive is part of his commitment to transparency, accountability, and the fight against corruption.

“I have made my asset declaration public to send a clear message—every public officeholder, especially my appointees, must do the same. This is not optional; it is a constitutional duty.”

He further instructed the Chief of Staff to ensure all ministers, heads of institutions, and key government officials meet the March 31 deadline.

“Failure to comply will attract severe sanctions, including possible dismissal from office.”

Mahama’s directive aligns with Article 286 of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates public officials to declare their assets upon assumption of office.

By leading by example, the president is making it clear that his administration will not tolerate financial misconduct. The move is expected to put pressure on government officials to comply or risk serious consequences.
