The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, has instructed traders and other operators occupying the stretch between the Asokwa Interchange and the Ahodwo Roundabout to leave the area by January 4, 2026, warning that failure to comply will result in forced eviction.
The directive is linked to ongoing preparations to dualise the Ahodwo–Asokwa Interchange section of the Southern Bypass, a key arterial road that links Kumasi to several communities across the Ashanti Region.
City authorities say the existing single carriageway has increasingly become a bottleneck, contributing significantly to traffic congestion, particularly during rush hours.

Officials from the Department of Urban Roads have also raised concerns that trading activities and other encroachments along the corridor could disrupt construction if not cleared promptly.
During a visit to the project site, the mayor engaged traders and operators working in the area, formally informing them of the decision and urging them to relocate voluntarily before the deadline.
He stressed that construction has already begun and must continue without interruption, adding that enforcement action will be taken against anyone who defies the directive.
“The contractor is already on site, and the work must move forward as scheduled. We cannot allow any obstacles along this stretch, which is why all activities here must stop,” the mayor stated.
