Kpebu Blasts OSP After Release, Calls Arrest “Unjustified” and Part of Agyebeng’s “Suicide Mission”

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has slammed the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for what he calls an “entirely unjustified” arrest, accusing Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng of leading the institution on a “suicide mission” that threatens its credibility.

Mr Kpebu was detained on Wednesday, December 3, after arriving at the OSP headquarters to assist with investigations into corruption allegations he has levelled against the Special Prosecutor.

His arrest followed a confrontation with security officers at the OSP entrance, an encounter he insists did not warrant detention.

Speaking to TV3 shortly after his release on bail, he described the experience as surreal.

“I did nothing that warrants an arrest. It felt unreal, almost like a fairytale, so I kept my spirits high,” he said.

He added that the arrest occurred before any investigator had the opportunity to question him, suggesting deliberate intimidation.

Mr Kpebu minced no words in his criticism of the Special Prosecutor, asserting that Mr Agyebeng must take responsibility for the actions of officers under his command.

“This whole episode is a suicide mission that Kissi Agyebeng’s OSP has embarked on. He may claim he has nothing to do with it, but he is the head of the institution,” he stated emphatically.

According to Kpebu, the OSP under Mr Agyebeng has become increasingly confrontational and reckless, a posture he believes undermines public confidence in the anti-corruption body.

Mr Kpebu has consistently criticised what he views as systemic procedural failings within the OSP. He maintains that only an independent investigative body, not officers who report directly to the Special Prosecutor, can fairly examine the corruption allegations he has raised.

His long-standing concerns include the OSP’s internal handling of cases, particularly the delegation of sensitive investigations to junior officers.

The lawyer also referenced the OSP’s previous probe into former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, arguing that the office mishandled foundational procedural requirements in that case.
