The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has assured students and the university community of their safety following the tragic passing of a final-year Biological Sciences student, Joana Deladem Yabani.
University authorities reported that her lifeless body was discovered near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre at approximately 5:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025. The KNUST Security Services received an early report and swiftly responded to the scene.
Following confirmation of her passing, the university immediately transferred the body to the University Health Services for further examination.

In an official statement released on Thursday, February 27, KNUST management expressed its commitment to uncovering the details surrounding the incident. A thorough investigation is currently being carried out in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), KNUST Internal Security, and the University Health Services.
The university has also formally notified the deceased’s family and urged students to remain calm, avoid speculation, and respect the family’s privacy during this difficult period.
Management extended its heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and assured the university community that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
“We will provide further updates as the investigation unfolds,” the statement concluded.
