Ken Ofori-Atta declared wanted: He ought to face the law if there is sufficient evidence- Mpraseo MP
The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, Davis Ansah Opoku, has expressed support for investigations into alleged corruption involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
However, he has raised concerns over the handling of the case by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
Opoku’s comments come after the OSP officially named Ofori-Atta as a suspect in four high-profile cases, including allegations related to the National Cathedral Project, the Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) revenue engagement, and two other matters.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Wednesday, February 12, Opoku emphasised the importance of accountability while questioning the OSP’s decision to declare Ofori-Atta a fugitive.
“I am not here to defend anybody that the state feels has engaged in any wrongdoing. I mean, we are public officers, and we are expected to govern with a certain dignity, and so if there is sufficient evidence to indicate that the former finance minister has engaged in any wrongdoing, I believe that he ought to face the law, and the due process must be followed,” he stated.
Despite supporting the probe, Opoku stressed the need for fairness and adherence to due process.
“However, we strongly believe that the processes leading to that process ought to follow a particular rule of law. We need to uphold the fundamental rights of every Ghanaian, irrespective of your service or whether the Ghanaian people like you or not, and that has been our position.”
His remarks highlight the delicate balance between pursuing justice and ensuring that legal procedures respect fundamental rights. As the case unfolds, public scrutiny remains high on the actions of both the OSP and those implicated in the investigations.
