John Darko Slams Armah-Kofi Buah’s Apology as Vague and Insincere

The Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, has expressed dissatisfaction with the apology issued by Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, arguing that it lacked specificity and failed to directly acknowledge any wrongdoing.

Darko’s criticism follows strong opposition from minority members of the Appointments Committee, who resisted Buah’s approval due to his refusal to retract or offer a direct apology for remarks he made about former President Akufo-Addo’s January 3, 2025, address.

During an interview on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Darko contended that Buah’s apology was ambiguous and non-committal, failing to address the core concerns of those who took issue with his comments.

“He claimed his statements reflected the views of Ghanaians. If he stands by that, then he clearly believes in what he said. Yet, in the same breath, he suggested that if his remarks appeared disrespectful, he was sorry. That is not a clear apology,” Darko asserted.

He further criticised Buah’s responses during the vetting process, describing them as evasive and lacking conviction.

“Throughout the vetting, his answers were not direct. He avoided taking a firm stance on many of the issues raised. I had hoped to bring this up on the floor of Parliament, but I did not get the chance,” Darko added.

Despite the controversy, Buah’s nomination was ultimately approved by Parliament, allowing him to assume his ministerial role.
