Jeremy Doku Receives Ghana Passport
Ghanaian-born Belgian football winger Jeremy Doku has officially received his Ghana passport in a symbolic moment highlighting his continued connection to his country of birth.
The Ghana Passport Office shared a photograph on its official Facebook page showing the Manchester City winger receiving his passport from Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The post celebrated the occasion as a proud moment for Ghana, with the office acknowledging Doku’s global football success while recognising his Ghanaian heritage.
Doku, who was born in Antwerp, Belgium, to Ghanaian parents, has risen to prominence as one of Europe’s most exciting young wingers. The 23-year-old has represented Belgium at the international level and currently plays for English Premier League giants Manchester City.
His receipt of a Ghanaian passport reinforces the strong ties between Ghana and its diaspora community, particularly among second-generation Ghanaians making significant contributions on the global stage.
The gesture also reflects Ghana’s ongoing efforts to strengthen engagement with citizens abroad and deepen connections with the diaspora through initiatives that promote national identity and belonging.
Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who presented the passport, has in recent times championed initiatives aimed at improving Ghana’s engagement with the diaspora and making citizenship services more accessible to Ghanaians living outside the country.
The development has generated excitement among football fans and Ghanaians who continue to celebrate the achievements of players of Ghanaian descent making their mark internationally.
