Inflation Falls Sharply as Ghana’s Economic Fundamentals Improve – BoG Governor

The governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Johnson Asiama, has announced a significant strengthening of Ghana’s economic fundamentals, citing a sharp and sustained decline in inflation as a major indicator of growing macroeconomic stability.

Dr Asiama made the disclosure on Wednesday, March 7, when the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, paid a courtesy call on him at Bank Square in Accra. The visit formed part of ongoing engagements between traditional authorities and the country’s economic managers amid signs of economic recovery.

Addressing the Asantehene, the BoG Governor said the underlying foundations of the economy have improved considerably since the central bank’s previous interaction with the traditional ruler.

According to Dr Asiama, inflation, which stood at 23.8 per cent in December 2024, has declined sharply over the past year due to consistent policy interventions by the central bank and government.

“Nana, I am pleased to say that since our visit to you, the underlying foundations of the economy have strengthened in important ways,” he stated.

He explained that inflation dropped to 8 per cent by October 2025, declined further to 6.3 per cent in November, and eased again to 5.4 per cent in December, based on the latest inflation figures released that morning.

“This morning we woke up to the news that for December, inflation has come down to 5.4 per cent,” Dr Asiama said.

He described the downward trend as a clear sign that recent monetary and fiscal policy measures are yielding positive results, contributing to improved price stability, reduced cost pressures, and renewed confidence in the economy.

The BoG Governor further noted that the stabilisation of key economic indicators reflects sustained efforts to restore macroeconomic discipline and strengthen investor and consumer confidence.

The Asantehene’s visit underscored the importance of collaboration between traditional leadership and state institutions in supporting national development and economic recovery.
