I was a victim of employment revocation when NPP took over in 2017 – Public Sector Minister nominee

Minister of State nominee for Public Sector Reforms, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, has revealed that she was a victim of employment revocation when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) assumed office in 2017.

Despite her personal experience, Akanvariba has assured that she will not engage in politically motivated dismissals but will instead focus on implementing measures to enhance efficiency in the public sector.

Speaking before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, February 24, she outlined her vision for public sector reforms, emphasising productivity, efficiency, and fair treatment of workers.

“My vision for the public sector is to create an efficient and responsive system that delivers on the government’s agenda and meets the needs of the people,” she stated.

Akanvariba stressed the need for a conducive working environment, continuous training, and capacity building to improve service delivery.

She expressed her commitment to working with both state and non-state actors to integrate modern technologies and ensure transparency within the sector.

She also highlighted the need to empower women in business and reaffirmed her dedication to ensuring that public sector reforms drive national development.

The nominee’s remarks come at a time when the government is seeking to restructure the public sector to enhance productivity and eliminate inefficiencies.

Her pledge to prioritise fairness and efficiency has been welcomed by stakeholders who have long advocated for nonpartisan approaches in managing public institutions.

As she awaits parliamentary approval, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba’s assurances signal a shift towards meritocracy and institutional strengthening within the country’s public sector.
