“I Have No Landed Property, And That Is Verifiable” – Adom-Otchere to Critics

Veteran broadcaster and former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere, has doubled down on his assertion that he owns no landed property in Ghana, describing the claim as “easily verifiable” despite growing public doubt.

Speaking on The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Monday, August 4, 2025, Mr Adom-Otchere said his lack of property ownership was a matter of personal choice, not financial incapacity.

“I have no landed property in my name, and that is easily verifiable,” he stated.

The claim has drawn widespread scepticism on social media and sparked heated debate, particularly after it emerged that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) had initially required him to present landed property as part of his bail conditions—a requirement he could not meet.

Mr Adom-Otchere recounted how his legal team petitioned the OSP to reconsider the bail terms, given his disclosure about having no property.

“The day after, when lawyers went to the OSP and said, ‘Look, you can’t have these bail terms, especially when the suspect had told you that he does not have landed property’… I am understanding that that will annoy them, and that is why I’m worried about how that annoys anyone,” he said.

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has openly challenged the veracity of Mr Adom-Otchere’s statement, alleging that the broadcaster owns multiple properties in Accra, even if they are not registered in his name.

“Paul telling OSP that he has no property is false… He was attempting to mislead the OSP,” Mr Kpebu claimed in an interview on Joy FM, adding that some individuals were willing to reveal properties allegedly linked to him.

Mr Adom-Otchere pushed back against such claims, saying his spending priorities differ from conventional expectations.

“Today I have seen people on Facebook say you have done journalism for 30 years; you say you don’t have property. But I organise my life the way I organise my life. I want to use my money for something else, and another person, who is with me, uses his/her money to do something else so that we can all benefit – I don’t have landed property in my name,” he explained.

He further criticised the initial bail terms imposed by the OSP, calling them highly unusual.

“All the lawyers are saying that this bail regime is very novel; it has never happened, and no one has seen it before. A bail regime is usually self-recognisance bail… especially if you’re somebody they can always find,” he noted.

The OSP later revised the conditions, paving the way for his release. The Jospong Group of Companies stepped in to act as surety.

Mr Adom-Otchere’s detention and subsequent release are tied to an ongoing OSP investigation into a revenue assurance contract awarded during his tenure as GACL Board Chair. The probe is examining alleged procedural breaches in the contract’s procurement process.

The Special Prosecutor has indicated that the investigation is still active and that further action could follow.
