The Accra High Court has dismissed an application filed by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta seeking to invalidate an arrest warrant issued by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), dealing a major legal blow to the former minister.
In its ruling on Thursday, the court held that the application was without merit and affirmed the legality of the OSP’s actions, including the controversial request for an Interpol Red Notice.
Ofori-Atta’s legal team had argued that the OSP acted ultra vires—beyond its legal powers—and failed to follow due process in securing the warrant. They also requested that all related enforcement steps be struck out.

But the judge rejected those claims in their entirety, ruling that the OSP had acted within its mandate.
The decision intensifies the ongoing standoff between the former minister and the anti-corruption agency, which is investigating him over procurement irregularities and the handling of public funds during his tenure.
Mr. Ofori-Atta has repeatedly failed to appear before the OSP, citing medical treatment abroad. In response, the OSP declared him wanted in June and initiated efforts to engage international law enforcement through Interpol.
With the court’s backing, the OSP is now legally empowered to continue pursuing his arrest and extradition.
