Helicopter Crash: Bodies Transported from Brofoyedru Sikaman Amid High Security

All eight bodies from Wednesday’s Ghana Air Force helicopter crash are now being moved from the Dampia Range Forest Reserve near Brofoyedru Sikaman in the Adansi Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

A strong security presence was deployed to the area, with heavily armed military and police officers coordinating the retrieval operation and maintaining strict access control. Several ambulances and military support vehicles were seen leaving the forest reserve in convoy, transporting the remains of the victims.

Despite restricted entry, scores of residents gathered at the fringes of the scene, many visibly shaken and emotional as body bags were carried to the waiting vehicles.

The ill-fated Ghana Air Force Z‑9 helicopter had been carrying five high-profile government officials and three crew members from Accra to Obuasi when it went off radar and crashed.

The deceased have been identified as:

  • Dr Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
  • Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation
  • Dr Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman, NDC
  • Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
  • Samuel Aboagye – Former MP
  • Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala – Ghana Air Force
  • Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu – Ghana Air Force
  • Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah – Ghana Air Force

Authorities have described the accident as a national tragedy, with flags flying at half-mast across Ghana as investigations into the cause continue.
