Gunmen in Suspected Security Uniforms Attack Kwahu Paramount Palace; Kwahuhemaa Allegedly Abducted

Residents of Abene in the Kwahu East District were thrown into fear and confusion in the early hours of Monday, November 17, 2025, after armed men reportedly dressed in police uniforms and claiming to be national security operatives stormed the Palace of the Paramount Chief of the Kwahu Traditional Council.

The incident, which occurred around 4 a.m., involved heavy gunfire inside the palace, according to eyewitnesses who were awakened by the sound of sporadic shots.

During the attack, the Kwahuhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyemfua, who was present in the palace, was allegedly abducted by the armed group. Her whereabouts remain unknown.

The assailants also made away with the official Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to the Kwahuhene. Tracking data suggests the vehicle is currently headed toward Accra, though authorities have not confirmed who is in control of it.

Both the Nkawkaw and Kwahu Divisional Police Commands have stated that they were not informed of any sanctioned operation at the palace and have distanced themselves from the armed group’s claim of being national security personnel.

Security sources describe the situation as highly suspicious, given that no official national security assignment was scheduled for the area at the time of the attack.

Information gathered by Puretvonline reveals heightened anxiety in the community, particularly due to ongoing tensions related to the Kwahu Chieftaincy disputes. Residents fear the attack may be connected to the long-standing rivalry in the traditional area.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement, but unconfirmed reports indicate that investigations have begun to determine:

  • The identities of the attackers
  • The motive behind the raid
  • The current location and safety of the Kwahuhemaa
  • How the assailants managed to infiltrate the palace with high-grade weapons

Security presence in Abene has reportedly increased as residents await clarification from the police, the National Security Secretariat, and the Kwahu Traditional Council.

More updates will be provided as new information emerges.
