Greater Accra Leads with 628 Fire Cases in First Half of 2025 as GNFS Reports GHS 203m Property Saved
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has disclosed that the Greater Accra Region recorded the highest number of fire outbreaks in the country between January and June 2025, despite witnessing a slight drop from the same period last year.
Speaking on the latest fire statistics, the GNFS reported that Greater Accra recorded 628 fire incidents in the first half of 2025, down from 708 cases during the same period in 2024. The Ashanti Region followed with 581 cases, while the Central Region placed third with 408. The Tema Metropolis recorded 307 incidents, making it the fourth highest.

Despite the persistent threat of fire, the GNFS says its intensified public education, improved response strategies, and community outreach campaigns have significantly bolstered property protection efforts.
According to the Service, properties valued at GHS 203,389,679.00 were salvaged between January and June 2025—nearly triple the GHS 71,893,345.00 saved in the same period last year.
However, this progress is shadowed by a disturbing increase in fire-related losses, with GHS 188,423,598.00 worth of property destroyed so far this year, compared to GHS 60,432,523.00 in 2024.
The GNFS attributes the fires to a combination of factors, including:
- Harsh weather conditions
- Negligence
- Non-compliance with fire safety regulations
- Electrical faults
- Gas leakages
- Road traffic accidents
The service stressed that while it is doing its part, public irresponsibility remains a major hurdle. It urged Ghanaians to strictly adhere to safety protocols, warning that disregard for basic fire safety measures continues to endanger lives and properties.
GNFS is calling for closer collaboration with the media, local authorities, and community stakeholders to amplify fire safety messages and reduce future incidents.
