Gov’t Clarifies: August 4 Not a Public Holiday

The Ministry of the Interior has firmly stated that Monday, August 4, 2025, will not be observed as a public holiday.

In an official statement issued on Thursday, July 31, the Ministry referenced the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Act, 2025, clarifying ongoing public speculation over the status of Founders’ Day, which had previously been marked on August 4 in recent years.

“The public is reminded that only holidays listed in the officially approved 2025 calendar, as sanctioned by the President, are to be observed,” the statement read.

August 4 does not appear on the list, meaning all businesses, institutions, and the general public are expected to carry out normal activities on the date in question.

The clarification comes after growing public inquiries and confusion over whether the day—once recognised to honour Ghana’s founding fathers—would remain a statutory holiday this year.

The Ministry urged all Ghanaians to take note and plan accordingly.
