Gomoa West NDC: Captain Smart Not a Registered Member in Constituency Records

The Gomoa West Constituency Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns over recent media reports and public commentary suggesting that media personality Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, intends to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.

At a duly constituted meeting held on Sunday, 7th June 2026, at the Constituency Secretariat, the Committee reviewed the matter and set out its official position for the attention of party members, supporters, and the general public.

The committee stated that its official records do not indicate that Mr Smart is a registered member of the NDC within the Gomoa West Constituency. It further noted that he has not participated in any branch meetings, activities, or political engagements within the constituency over the years, making it difficult to confirm any formal association with the party at the local level.

It also observed that Mr Smart has, over time, publicly associated himself with different political traditions, including the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). While acknowledging the democratic right of every citizen to choose their political affiliation, the Committee stressed that consistency and clarity in political identity are essential to maintaining the integrity of party structures and internal processes.

The Committee further reminded stakeholders that membership of the NDC is governed by clear constitutional provisions and established procedures. It emphasised that individuals seeking to participate in internal elections must meet all requirements outlined in the party’s rules and regulations.

It also clarified that the NDC has not yet opened nominations for parliamentary primaries in any constituency, describing current discussions about potential candidatures as premature and not part of the party’s immediate agenda. The Committee noted that the party remains focused on supporting the government of President John Dramani Mahama in the implementation of its development agenda and the consolidation of governance gains.

Reaffirming its inclusive nature, the Gomoa West NDC stated that the party remains open to all individuals who genuinely subscribe to its values, principles, and vision for national development. However, it stressed that participation in party activities must be guided by due process, discipline, and respect for internal structures.

The Committee therefore urged branch executives, party members, sympathisers, and supporters to remain focused on strengthening the party at the grassroots level and avoid speculation that could create unnecessary distractions or undermine unity and cohesion.

It assured members and supporters that the Gomoa West Constituency NDC remains united, disciplined, and committed to advancing the interests of both the constituency and the country.
