A coordinated operation by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at the Akanu Sector Command, supported by the Ghana Revenue Authority-Customs Division, has led to the interception of a truck smuggling cocoa beans into Togo.
The intelligence-led operation resulted in the arrest of a truck, registered AS 2103-W and driven by Ibrahim Fatawu, at the Ave-Havi border post. A total of 1,115 gallons packed with cocoa beans were discovered hidden in the vehicle.
According to an official statement signed by Michael Amoako-Atta, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration in charge of Public Relations, the intercepted cocoa beans have been handed over to COCOBOD for further processing. The truck has been impounded, and the driver remains in custody, assisting with investigations.

“The Ghana Immigration Service cautions all would-be smugglers to desist from such activities as they undermine the economy and lead to significant revenue losses for the government,” the statement read.
The GIS commended the vigilance of border residents for their role in safeguarding Ghana’s borders and reiterated its commitment to cracking down on illegal trade.
Further updates on the investigation are expected in the coming days.
