Ghana’s Gen Z Will Lead Third Political Force by 2032 – Kpebu

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has predicted that Ghana’s political landscape will witness the emergence of a viable third force by 2032, breaking the long-standing dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking as a panellist on TV3’s The KeyPoint programme on Saturday, October 18, 2025, Kpebu argued that the two-party system that has shaped Ghana’s Fourth Republic will not remain unchallenged forever.

He explained that political cycles across history show that electorates eventually seek alternatives, especially when they become disillusioned with existing parties.

“Anybody who tells you that it will always be NDC and NPP has not studied history,” Kpebu said. “Just Google the US, Google the UK — you’ll see that a point comes when people get tired and say, ‘You know what, it’s the same thing.’”

Kpebu suggested that by 2028, independent presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen may attempt another bid for power but may not succeed. However, he foresees that by 2032, a younger generation of leaders, particularly Gen Z, supported by sections of civil society and professionals, could galvanise into a strong third political bloc.

“Alan may try it in 2028; he won’t get it. But by 2032, the party — yeah, that’s the future. The Gen Zs are coming. Some of us will support because we also believe we can do it,” he said.

He emphasised that character and competence, rather than party affiliation, will increasingly influence voter choices in the future.

“We are all human beings. We’re looking at character. The character you have, there are others who have it too, but they are not in NDC or NPP. So let’s try others,” Kpebu argued.

The outspoken lawyer added that Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and professional groups will play a key role in shaping this third force, which will gradually mature into a credible political alternative.

“The third force—someday it will ripen into something. Anybody who tells you that third force will never ripen has not studied history,” he maintained.
