Ghana Revives Defence Hub Talks with UAE’s EDGE Group to Boost Local Military Industry
The Government of Ghana has renewed discussions with UAE-based EDGE Group on plans to establish a defence hub for the Ghana Armed Forces, aimed at strengthening the country’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities.
The proposed initiative, to be implemented through the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited (DIHOC), forms part of Ghana’s broader defence industrialisation agenda and efforts to enhance self-reliance in military logistics and production.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Deputy Minister for Defence, Hon. Ernest Brogya Genfi, the Acting Judge Advocate General of the Ministry, Brigadier General Benjamin Amoah-Boakye, reaffirmed the government's commitment to promoting industrial growth within the Ghana Armed Forces.
He emphasised that strategic partnerships with reputable international defence firms such as EDGE Group are critical to building local capacity, improving operational efficiency, and supporting national development objectives.
The Director of Business Development International at EDGE Group, Tony Chegwidden, highlighted the company’s portfolio of advanced defence solutions and underscored the importance of understanding Ghana’s local market to deliver tailored and sustainable systems.
The Defence Hub proposal was initially presented in May 2025 during the tenure of the late defence minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah. However, progress stalled following his passing.
The latest engagement signals a renewed push by both Ghana and EDGE Group to revive the initiative and advance a strategic partnership that could transform the country’s defence production landscape.
