Ghana recorded a staggering 7,289 road crashes and 1,504 fatalities between January and June 2025, according to provisional figures released by the National Road Safety Authority (NSRA) in partnership with the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).
The data further shows that 12,354 vehicles were involved in accidents during the six-month period, with 8,300 individuals sustaining varying degrees of injuries. Alarmingly, 1,301 pedestrians were knocked down across the country during the same period.
Breaking down the statistics, the NSRA revealed that Ghana loses an average of eight lives to road crashes every day, while 40 crashes are reported daily nationwide. Each day, 46 people are injured, and 69 vehicles and motorcycles are involved in these incidents.

The Authority has once again sounded the alarm over the increasing road carnage, calling for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, improved road user behaviour, and sustained public education campaigns.
“The numbers are deeply concerning. Every statistic represents a life lost, a family devastated, or a future cut short,” the NSRA warned, stressing the need for collective responsibility in tackling the menace.
Authorities say they are working with stakeholders to intensify operations against reckless driving, over-speeding, and disregard for traffic laws while urging the public to adhere to safety protocols to reverse the deadly trend.
