The mortal remains of the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in the August 6 military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region have arrived in Accra.
The caskets, each draped in the national flag, were received in a solemn military ceremony at Burma Camp before being transported to the 37 Military Hospital mortuary for preservation.

Present at the reception was Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, along with other senior government and military officials. A full complement of Ghana Armed Forces personnel was deployed to honour the departed, underlining the gravity of the national tragedy.
The deceased have been identified as:
- Hon. Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
- Hon. Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment and MP for Tamale Central
- Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the ruling NDC
- Mr Samuel Aboagye, former MP
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
- Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
The victims were aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter en route to Obuasi on official government duty when the aircraft lost radar contact and later crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District.
In response to the tragedy, Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu has officially announced three days of national mourning, beginning Thursday, August 7, 2025.
“The government, through the Chief of Staff, has meanwhile directed that all flags must fly at half-mast until further notice,” Mr Ofosu stated.
At an emergency press briefing held at the Presidency, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah confirmed the identities of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding their fatal journey.
“The President and the government extend our condolences and sympathies to the families of our comrades and the servicemen who died in service to the country,” he said.
The announcement has sent shockwaves across the country, as Ghanaians come to terms with the loss of dedicated public servants and brave military officers who died while performing their national duties.
The atmosphere in Accra remains sombre, with tributes continuing to pour in from all walks of life, both at home and abroad.
