Gabriel Atokple Kwamigah Tanko Elected as Volta Region’s Council of State Representative

Businessman Gabriel Atokple Kwamigah Tanko has been elected as the Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State, securing 24 out of 36 votes in the election held on February 11, 2025, at the OLA Senior High School Assembly Hall.

The race initially featured 13 candidates, but Tanko emerged victorious with a commanding lead. Despite early tensions delaying proceedings, voting commenced at 9:50 AM, and he secured a clear majority by the end of the process.

Following his victory, Tanko pledged to leverage the Volta Region’s economic potential for sustainable development, promising to advocate for policies that drive growth and prosperity.

Meanwhile, some candidates have accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of influencing delegates’ votes, raising concerns over the fairness of the electoral process. However, electoral officials have yet to comment on the allegations.

With his election, Tanko is set to represent the interests of the Volta Region, bringing regional concerns to the highest levels of governance.
