Fuel Prices Marginally Increased

Some oil marketing companies (OMCs) in Ghana have marginally increased fuel prices as the second pricing window for January 2025 takes effect. This adjustment reflects global market trends and the local currency’s performance.

Leading OMCs, including state-owned GOIL and Shell, have already revised their petrol and diesel prices upwards. At GOIL, petrol, which previously sold at GH₵14.99 per litre during the first pricing window, is now retailing at GH₵15.74. Diesel prices have also seen a slight increase, moving from GH₵15.60 per litre to GH₵15.77.

Shell has similarly adjusted its prices. Petrol now sells at GH₵15.59 per litre, up from GH₵15.30, while diesel prices have risen from GH₵15.66 to GH₵15.79 per litre.

The upward adjustment is largely attributed to rising crude oil prices on the global market and the ongoing depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against major currencies. These factors continue to exert pressure on OMCs, influencing their pricing decisions.

Meanwhile, some OMCs have opted to maintain their current prices. Star Oil, for instance, continues to sell petrol at GH₵14.75 per litre and diesel at GH₵14.99. Total Energies has also kept its prices unchanged, with petrol at GH₵15.50 and diesel at GH₵15.99 per litre.

The price adjustments highlight the volatility of the fuel market and the challenges consumers face in navigating these fluctuations. Many motorists are expected to feel the impact of these changes as OMCs across the industry gradually revise their prices.

Industry experts are advising consumers to stay informed about fuel price trends and plan accordingly to mitigate the financial burden.
