Four Dead, Six Injured in Deadly Chieftaincy Clashes in North East Region

Four people have been killed, and six others sustained gunshot wounds following violent attacks on the Nanik and Nganme Gberuk communities in the Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo district of the North East Region on Friday, February 28.

The attacks, reportedly fuelled by a chieftaincy dispute, erupted in the early hours of the morning. Armed assailants stormed the villages, burning down several houses and leaving a trail of destruction.

Among the deceased was a teacher in the Nanik community, who was asleep when attackers set his home ablaze. Trapped inside, he was unable to escape and was burnt beyond recognition. Shocking images of his charred remains circulated on social media, sparking speculation about a possible link to the ongoing Mamprusi-Bimoba conflict in Bawku.

However, his family has dismissed such claims, clarifying that he was an innocent victim of the violence. Speaking to Channel One News, a relative of the deceased expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss and urged workers in the area to remain cautious or temporarily relocate until calm is restored.

The slain teacher was buried this morning in his community, as residents grapple with the devastation left behind by the attacks.
