Former NSA Boss Osei Assibey Antwi Paid MP to Kill ‘Ghost Names’ Scandal

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has made startling revelations regarding the ghost names scandal within the National Service Scheme (NSS), implicating former Director General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Osei Assibey Antwi, in an alleged attempt to suppress media coverage of the issue.

Speaking at a press briefing, Dr Ayine disclosed that ongoing investigations by the Attorney General’s office and the ORAL team have uncovered a series of financial malpractices within the NSS, including payments made to silence media exposure.

According to Dr Ayine, Antwi and other top executives of the NSS paid a Ghanaian Member of Parliament (MP) in November 2024 to prevent the scandal from gaining traction in the media.

“We have evidence that in November 2024, the CEO of the NSS and others paid a Ghanaian Member of Parliament to kill the story in the media and to defend them. This was done in an attempt to prevent public scrutiny of the financial mismanagement within the National Service Scheme,” Dr Ayine stated.

The investigation, which is expected to conclude by mid-April, has so far led to the interrogation of eight suspects, some of whom have reportedly provided incriminating evidence against top officials.

“With the National Service Scandal, eight suspects have been interrogated, and a good number of them have started providing valuable information. We now have proof that private vendors of the scheme made payments into the personal accounts of some top executives,” the Attorney General added.

The NSS ghost names scandal involves allegations of fraudulent enrolment of nonexistent individuals onto the scheme’s payroll, leading to substantial financial losses.

The Attorney General reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prosecuting those responsible and ensuring accountability within public institutions.

The revelation has sparked outrage among civil society groups and anti-corruption advocates, who are calling for swift legal action against those implicated.

Meanwhile, the Attorney General’s office has hinted at the possibility of prosecuting some of the accused officials in absentia if they fail to appear for trial.
