EOCO Seizes Lamborghini from Shatta Wale in Joint Operation with FBI

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has confirmed that its Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) carried out a search and seizure operation at the Trassaco Valley Phase 1 residence of Ghanaian dancehall star Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale.

The June 2025 operation, conducted in collaboration with U.S. authorities, followed a 2023 request from the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ). The request forms part of an ongoing international investigation into financial crimes.

During the exercise, EOCO seized a 2019 Lamborghini Urus that investigators say is linked to criminal proceeds belonging to Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian national serving an 86‑month prison sentence in the United States for multiple financial offences.

According to Ghanaian and U.S. authorities, the luxury SUV was purchased using funds derived from Amuah’s criminal activities and was subsequently traced to Shatta Wale. EOCO emphasised that the operation was conducted lawfully and without incident, with officers maintaining a professional and civil approach throughout.

Shatta Wale reportedly appealed to officers to keep the seizure private, citing the car’s importance to his brand and public image. However, he was allowed to voluntarily hand over the vehicle, which is now in EOCO’s custody.

EOCO clarified that it is standard procedure for SARU operatives to be armed during such high-value asset recovery operations for security reasons.

A formal Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) request is expected from the FBI and DOJ to the Government of Ghana, seeking the repatriation of the Lamborghini as part of efforts to recover a $4.7 million restitution order imposed on Amuah.

The anti-graft agency further revealed that Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of Ghana’s National Signals Bureau (NSB) have been named persons of interest in the case and will be invited to assist with ongoing investigations.

EOCO added that its final investigative report could be shared with U.S. authorities in accordance with international cooperation agreements.
