The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced significant improvement in the condition of victims injured during last Wednesday’s deadly stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, offering a measure of relief after days of national concern.
The tragic incident, which occurred during the military recruitment exercise, has so far claimed six lives and left dozens injured.
Providing the latest update, Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director-General of the Department of Public Relations of the GAF, revealed that three out of the five victims who were rushed to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in critical condition have now stabilised and been transferred to another ward.

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, November 17, Captain Arhin said medical teams have been working tirelessly to prevent additional fatalities.
“The injured are doing well; they are at the hospital, and they are receiving the best of care. On the day of the incident, we had five people in the ICU. As we speak, three of them are doing well, and they have been moved to another ward,” she explained.
According to her, 29 victims were brought to the hospital on the day of the stampede. While several have since been treated and discharged, 16 individuals remain on admission, receiving continuous monitoring and care.
The update comes as authorities continue investigations into what led to the deadly rush that left six dead and many others traumatised. The GAF has also reiterated its commitment to supporting the injured and assuring the public of improved crowd-management protocols going forward.
