DVLA to Open Six Overseas Offices to Combat Fake Ghanaian Licences Abroad

In a major effort to curb the proliferation of fake Ghanaian driving licences among citizens living overseas, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced plans to establish six new offices outside Ghana.

The announcement was made during the commissioning of a new ultra-modern DVLA office in Adentan Municipality on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

The new Adentan office boasts 24-hour service delivery and will offer the full suite of DVLA services, including driver licensing and vehicle registration.

Addressing journalists at the event, DVLA CEO Julius Neequaye Kotey revealed that the overseas expansion aims to streamline licensing processes for Ghanaians abroad and reduce the incidents of forgery and fraud linked to Ghanaian licences in foreign countries.

“The DVLA under my leadership, together with Foster Yeboah, is going to open six new stations, which are going to be outside Ghana to address licensing issues,” Kotey said. “We have approached some embassies and secured partnerships in Germany, the UK, the USA, Canada, Dubai, and South Africa. Piloting will begin with these countries.”

The pilot programme, according to the CEO, will allow Ghanaians abroad to acquire genuine DVLA licences through verified channels without resorting to middlemen or unapproved sources.

Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, who graced the commissioning ceremony as the guest speaker, called on the DVLA to raise its service standards and fulfil its regulatory duties.

“On behalf of the President, we charge DVLA to improve service delivery. They are responsible for registering and ensuring that any vehicle that plies our roads is roadworthy. It is their duty to ensure quality service to the people of Ghana,” the minister stated.

The initiative marks a significant step in digitalising and internationalising Ghana’s driver licensing system, reinforcing the government’s commitment to road safety, regulatory efficiency, and protecting the country’s reputation globally.
