President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey as the acting chief executive officer (CEO) of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).
The appointment, announced in a letter dated January 21, 2025, aligns with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 12(2) of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 1984 (P.N.D.C.L. 81).
The official communication, signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, states:
“Dr. Abbey’s appointment is effective immediately and will remain in place pending the constitutionally required advice of the COCOBOD Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.”
President Mahama extended his congratulations to Dr. Abbey and expressed confidence in his ability to lead COCOBOD effectively.
The President highlighted the importance of the institution in sustaining the livelihoods of millions of cocoa farmers and driving national economic growth.
