Dr. Hanna Bissiw Appointed Administrator of Minerals Development Fund

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Hanna Louisa Bissiw, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Women’s Organiser, as the Administrator of the Minerals Development Fund (MDF).

The MDF, established under Act 912 and passed by Parliament in March 2016, serves as a key financial instrument to support development projects in Ghana’s mining communities.

Its mandate includes channelling funds to benefit mining communities, landowners, local authorities, and institutions overseeing mining sector development.

Dr. Bissiw brings extensive political and professional experience to the role. A former Member of Parliament for Tano South in the Brong Ahafo Region, she has held various governmental positions, including Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works, and Housing, and Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture.

Born in Techiman, Brong Ahafo Region, Dr. Bissiw attended Kumasi Girls’ Senior High School before earning a scholarship to study in Cuba, where she graduated as a veterinary doctor in 1999. Upon returning to Ghana, she worked in veterinary hospitals and contributed to Ghana-Cuba collaboration projects before venturing into active politics in 2008.

As the new Administrator of the MDF, Dr. Bissiw is expected to ensure the efficient and transparent allocation of resources to mining communities, aligning with the government’s commitment to equitable development and sustainable mining sector growth.
