The High Court in Accra has sentenced Deborah Seyram Adablah, the former national service personnel who made headlines in 2023 for suing her alleged “sugar daddy”, to 45 days in prison for contempt of court.
Justice John Bosco Nabarese handed down the sentence after Adablah was found guilty of defaming the court through a series of social media videos.
In the videos, she launched scathing attacks on the judge and judiciary following the dismissal of her civil suit against a former Chief Finance Officer of a bank, whom she accused of breaching promises made during their intimate relationship.

In one of the videos cited in the contempt proceedings, Adablah said:
“You cannot be sitting there, chopping salaries that are coming from my menstruation and still sideline me… Be ready to dance to this drum you are beating.”
The court found these comments to be a direct attack on the integrity and dignity of the judiciary.
The scandal originally began in January 2023 when Adablah sued the CFO, claiming that he had promised to finance her lifestyle — including a car, rent for three years, a monthly allowance, medical support, and more — in exchange for a romantic relationship. The court eventually dismissed the case, declaring the arrangement immoral and legally unenforceable, describing the relationship as “fornication for financial gain”.
Following the judgement, the court ordered that a Honda Civic vehicle central to the case be retrieved from Adablah. But she resisted enforcement and accused bailiffs of misconduct. Matters worsened when she recorded and shared more videos, directly accusing Justice Nabarese of bias and threatening him publicly.
In her defiant online outbursts, Adablah vowed not to respect the court’s decisions, claiming the judiciary was “full of spirits” and warning the judge he would have to “carry young spirits” into retirement. She even livestreamed parts of her arrest and pre-sentencing preparations from the High Court complex.
The court, citing repeated contemptuous behaviour and lack of remorse, ruled that her actions undermined judicial authority and could not go unpunished.
Adablah is to serve her 45-day sentence at the Nsawam Prison.
