Dansoman Market Fire Leaves 41-Year-Old Seamstress Devastated; Appeals for Support After Losing Livelihood
A 41-year-old entrepreneur and devoted member of the Church of Pentecost–Upper Room Assembly in the Mpoasei District, Dansoman Area, has had her life brought to a heartbreaking halt after a fierce fire swept through the Dansoman Market in the early hours of Wednesday, November 26, 2025.
Susana Amevor, a seamstress and mother, lost her sewing machines, knitting machines, fabrics, customers’ materials, and a substantial amount of money she kept in her shop. The destruction has wiped out her savings, investments, and livelihood in a single night.
Speaking to Puretvonline.com, a distraught Susana said she has been left hopeless and is calling on compassionate individuals, organisations, and stakeholders to come to her aid.

“All my savings, everything I have worked for, is gone. I don’t even know where to start. I need support,” she said.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the fire was reported at 00:02 hours. The first crew from the Dansoman Fire Station arrived within two minutes, but the blaze was already in an advanced stage, rapidly spreading across several sections of the market.
To combat the inferno, eight fire engines were dispatched from fire stations in Industrial Area, Ministries, National Headquarters, Madina, Weija, Anyaa, and Accra City. Two private water tankers from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly also supported the operation.
Firefighters managed to confine the blaze by 01:51 hours, brought it under control at 03:03 hours, and fully extinguished it by 05:21 hours after extensive overhauling to eliminate hidden fire pockets.
Amid the devastation, an 8-year-old girl was found trapped within one of the worst-affected zones. She could not be rescued in time, and her charred remains have been handed over to the police for further investigation.
Several wooden structures and shops were destroyed, along with their contents. GNFS officials, however, noted that swift intervention prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining structures, averting a more catastrophic outcome.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are underway.
The GNFS is urging traders and the public to remain vigilant and adopt fire-safety measures in markets and high-risk areas to prevent such tragedies in the future.
