Court Remands 31 Suspects Over Invasion of Apamprama Forest Reserve
The Bekwai Circuit Court has remanded 31 persons arrested by the Forestry Commission for allegedly invading the Apamprama Forest Reserve into police custody.
The court, presided over by His Lordship Isaac Apeatu, declined to take the pleas of the accused persons and ordered that they be remanded to reappear before the court on January 12, 2026.
Prosecuting, Detective Inspector Eric Twum told the court that the prosecution would require additional time to properly assemble facts and relevant documentation, citing the large number of accused persons involved in the case. He therefore urged the court to refuse any bail application.

Counsel for the accused persons, Prince Andrew Akawole, appealed to the court to grant bail to his clients. He argued that the suspects—who include one woman—arrived in the country on December 27, 2025, and neither speak English nor Twi, a situation he said significantly reduces the likelihood of them evading trial.
He further informed the court that persons of good standing were willing to serve as sureties should bail be granted to the accused persons.
In his ruling, the presiding judge held that, considering the nature of the offence and the severity of the punishment associated with such crimes, the court was unable to grant bail.
The case has been adjourned to January 12, 2026, and the accused persons have been remanded into custody to reappear on the adjourned date.
