President John Dramani Mahama has emphasised that the ongoing constitutional review process is a national responsibility, aimed at enhancing Ghana’s governance framework rather than serving any political agenda.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Constitution Review Committee on January 30, President Mahama underscored the importance of collective effort and nationwide participation in reshaping the country’s legal structures.
“This exercise is not about any political party. It is about Ghana. It is about ensuring that our Constitution reflects the values, hopes, and dreams of every Ghanaian, regardless of their background or affiliation,” he stated.
President Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to seeing the constitutional amendments through, emphasising that previous efforts must not go to waste.
Acknowledging the work of past administrations, he commended former Presidents John Evans Atta Mills and Nana Akufo-Addo for initiating constitutional review processes in 2010 and 2023, respectively.
His remarks signalled a continuity of governance, urging bipartisan support to ensure that key legal and structural reforms are successfully implemented.
Mahama urged the Constitution Review Committee to actively engage citizens across the country to ensure that the revised Constitution aligns with the aspirations of all Ghanaians.
He highlighted the need for:
✅ Public participation in shaping governance laws.
✅ Inclusive decision-making that reflects the voices of all communities.
✅ Strengthening democratic institutions for sustainable development.
With Ghana at a critical juncture, Mahama’s call for a non-partisan approach to constitutional review is expected to shape national discourse on governance, democracy, and legal reforms in the coming months.
